What's an hour? It's a television show. A load of laundry. A Lunch.
It's 6 new HIV infections here in the United States. That's over 56,000 new cases every single year.
AND WHAT'S CONCERNING IS THAT THIS NUMBER HASN'T DECREASED IN NEARLY 10 YEARS.
Nearly one quarter of the people who have HIV/AIDS are completely unaware that they're infected. One reason for this is that thousands remain uneducated about the virus.
MANY DON'T EVEN KNOW THEY SHOULD GET TESTED.
Some are too afraid. Or too ashamed. for others, getting to a doctor is a difficult task. Not because they don't care, but because they simply have no transportation to get there.
About 1.2 million people are infected with HIV/AIDS in the U.S. alone, with thousands dying each year. Women account for nearly 1 in 4 new HIV infections in the U.S. and still, many people are unaware just how much we are all affected.
By participating and donating to the Ride for AIDS 2009, you are ensuring that treatment, care, prevention programs and outreach into populations newly infected with HIV will continue.
When it comes to taking on HIV/AIDS, every dollar makes a difference.
